The flavours of Indian food and culture will be out in all their glory this December.  Cricket Australia and the Victorian Government in partnership are hosting the Indian Summer Festival, in Yarra Park outside the MCG. This three-day FREE event will celebrate Victoria’s vibrant Indian community with a program built upon five shared cultural pillars that unite modern India and modern Melbourne: Food, Music, Art, Film and Cricket.

Attendees can expect an array of live music from a collection of local and international talent, modern Indian street art painted by Indian and local artists, a host of family cricket activities, some of the best modern Indian food that Australia has to offer, an exhibition kabaddi match and an open-air cinema showcasing short Bollywood films and music.

Multi-award winning company, Foodie Trails, is the appointed culinary curator for the festival. Guests can enjoy foods from various regions of India, with not only traditional flavours but a lot of modern fusion flavours that reflect the Indian - Australian blend of cultures.

Director of Foodie Trails Himanshi Munshaw Luhar says “Indian food is so much more than butter chicken and naan. We love our street food and there is nothing like a chai in a match break. We have catered to a number of food palates and there is something for everyone.”

There is a wide variety of food types on offer, featuring restaurants like Horn Please by Chef Jessi Singh of Babu Jis New York, Aangan an Indian community favourite, Two Fat Indians and Gaja by Sashi, the recent Masterchef winner.

With almost 15 food trucks and stalls at the event, there will be no shortage of dosas, kulfi, chaats, chai, coffee, curries, naan and rice. You certainly will not leave hungry.

The three-day festival is FREE and open to all Victorians, as well as local and international visitors. Whether you are going to the cricket or not this is one Indian festival you do not want to miss.

The Indian Summer Festival will begin with Bupa Family Day, 23rd of December 2018, with the Australia and India Men’s Test teams making an appearance on stage and taking the time to meet with fans.

The festival will continue over days one and two of the Boxing Day Test (26 and 27 December), giving cricket fans and the general public an opportunity to sample all that modern Indian culture has to offer.

The festival will be headlined by international acts Raxstar (UK) and Humble The Poet (Canada), Sydney-based L-FRESH The Lion and Pav Dharia and Melbourne grown Ecca Vandal. The festival will also feature local emerging artists including Manorism, Sahida Apsara & Dub FX.

“Indians love their food and we love our chai, to have access to this around our favourite sport just makes it so much more fun to experience.” says Munshaw Luhar.
